Our Story

The Junkyard SLC was created from a simple idea: before something is thrown away, it deserves a second look. As an extension of One Man's Junk, we carefully curate unique finds, collectibles, furniture, décor, and reclaimed items that we recover from cleanouts and junk removal projects throughout Salt Lake City.

Our mission is rooted in values passed down by people who shaped who we are. To Joseph, Karen, and Gary—thank you. The lessons you taught about hard work, resourcefulness, kindness, and seeing potential where others see waste continue to guide everything we do.

Through The Junkyard SLC, we hope to honor that legacy by keeping usable items in circulation, reducing landfill waste, and helping one person's unwanted items become someone else's favorite find.

The Junkyard SLC may officially be launching now, but its story actually began back in 2020. Long before we ever had a name, a website, or a plan, we were already doing what The Junkyard SLC was created to do—saving good items from being thrown away and giving them a second chance.

In 2020, we stepped away from our 9-to-5 jobs and into something completely unknown. Around the same time, we started noticing perfectly good furniture, books, collectibles, and household items being left at the curb during neighborhood cleanouts. Instead of watching them head to the landfill, we started bringing them home.

What began as a little "garbage picking" quickly turned into a passion. We spent our weekends rescuing furniture, saving books, uncovering hidden treasures, and learning how to restore, repurpose, and appreciate items that others had overlooked. We learned to see value where others saw waste and opportunity where others saw junk. Looking back, those early days were really the beginning of The Junkyard SLC—we just didn't know it yet.

Then life gave us a different perspective.

We had the privilege of caring for several beloved family members during their final years. Being able to slow down and be present with them was one of the greatest gifts of our lives. After each goodbye, however, we witnessed something difficult: a lifetime of memories, collections, and treasured belongings could quickly end up at the curb or in a landfill. We knew there had to be a better way.

That realization led to the creation of One Man's Junk—a junk removal company built around compassion, community, and responsible disposal. Rather than simply hauling everything away, we make every reasonable effort to donate, recycle, repurpose, and find new homes for usable items. Through donation partnerships, recycling efforts, book rescue projects, and our community Free Item Days, we work to keep as much as possible out of the waste stream.

As One Man's Junk grew, so did the number of incredible items we were able to save. We discovered vintage treasures, collectibles, unique décor, quality furniture, antiques, tools, artwork, and one-of-a-kind pieces that deserved more than a trip to the dump. Over time, we realized these items needed a home of their own.

That's how The Junkyard SLC finally came to life. What started in 2020 as a passion for rescuing discarded treasures has grown into a curated collection of unique finds sourced from cleanouts, estate projects, donations, and junk removal jobs throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Some items are sold as-found, some are restored, and others are creatively repurposed—but every item is here because we believed it deserved another chance.

To Joseph, Karen, and Gary—thank you. The lessons you taught us about hard work, kindness, resourcefulness, and seeing value in things others overlook continue to guide everything we do. Through One Man's Junk and The Junkyard SLC, we hope to honor that legacy by reducing waste, preserving stories, and helping one person's unwanted item become someone else's treasured find.
